Prosperity 2040

Prosperity 2040

Switzerland's citizen-authored vision for long-term national wellbeing — co-defined through deliberative process, anchored in evidence, owned by no single party.

Prosperity 2040 is Switzerland’s citizen-authored vision for long-term national wellbeing. It is not a government programme. It is not a corporate initiative. It is an open, deliberative process that invites citizens, scientists, businesses and policymakers to co-define what enduring prosperity means for the country — beyond GDP, grounded in lived experience, and designed to be measurable.

The Swiss Impact & Prosperity Initiative organises this work through three interconnected intentions: a shared vision (Prosperity 2040), a measurement compass (the PROSPER framework), and a long-term mission (Net-Positive Finance). Together, these form the architecture for Switzerland’s regenerative transition — connecting citizens, capital and systems to build the country the next generation will inherit.

What does prosperity mean for Switzerland in 2040?

The 100 Questions process is the deliberative engine of Prosperity 2040. It surfaces what citizens, scientists and decision-makers actually believe about the country’s long-horizon direction — and turns that into a living national document. Podcasts, regional forums, and structured foresight exercises feed into quarterly synthesis reports that inform both the PROSPER Compass methodology and the policy levers SIPI recommends.

This is not aspiration for its own sake. Every question asked, every forum convened, and every synthesis published is designed to produce actionable intelligence: the kind that boards, cantonal offices, and institutional investors can translate into funded delivery. Switzerland’s long-term direction is a public question. Prosperity 2040 ensures the answer is authored together.

From vision to delivery

SIPI operates through a disciplined three-mode practice: Think, Act, Orchestrate. The Think mode invests in the analytical commons — federated data, structured foresight, and the PROSPER Compass methodology — before recommending any policy. The Act mode runs concrete demonstrators through three Grand Challenges: Lifespan Wellbeing, Regenerative Nutrition, and Circular Economy. The Orchestrate mode connects capital and policy through Net-Positive Finance pathways, shared-savings structures, and the four cross-cutting leverage points (Data Commons, Foresight, Policy, Infrastructure).

Prosperity 2040 is the north star. The PROSPER Compass is the measurement architecture. Net-Positive Finance is the economic engine. Together, they form the institutional scaffolding for Switzerland’s long transition — patient, evidence-led, and designed to be replicable across cantons, sectors, and scales.
